In the early hours of 21 July, around a million people tune in for the live broadcast of the first lunar landing.

SRG produces its own news programmes
After over 40 years, the era of SDA-produced radio news bulletins in French and German comes to an end, as SRG takes over sole responsibility for news programming. Radio svizzera di lingua italiana will continue to source its news coverage from the SDA until the end of 1975.

Ettore Tenchio
Ettore Tenchio becomes SRG's ninth chairman. Term of office: 1971–1980.
Stelio Molo
Stelio Molo becomes the fourth Director General of SRG. He had previously been the Editor of the SDA and head of Radio Monte Ceneri.
