SRG gets a new name
The ‘Schweizerische Rundspruchgesellschaft’ changes its name to the ‘Schweizerische Radio- und Fernsehgesellschaft’ (Swiss Radio and Television Corporation). In 1960, the ‘Schweizerische Rundspruchgesellschaft’ changed its name to ‘Schweizerische Radio- und Fernsehgesellschaft’.
The change reflected its move into television broadcasting, which began with experimental broadcasts in 1953 and culminated in the beginning of regular broadcasts on 1 January 1958. The corporation continues to use the acronym ‘SRG’, and remains registered as an association under Swiss law.
