Swiss Radio International becomes Swissinfo

Swiss Radio International transforms itself into a multimedia company, and continues to expand its multimedia platform on www.swissinfo.org. At the same time, it begins shutting down the short-wave service. Swiss Radio International is officially renamed Swissinfo to reflect the name of its product.

Switching from analogue to digital television
SRG SSR idée suisse begins to digitalise wireless terrestrial TV broadcasts (Digital Video Broadcasting, DVB-T). The new system makes its début in the Engadin and the Ticino.

Swissinfo shuts down its radio service
Swissinfo.ch stops broadcasting its radio programmes over shortwave and satellite. Information about Switzerland is now broadcast exclusively via its internet platform at www.swissinfo.org.
