Yann Richter becomes SRG's eleventh chairman. Term of office: 1983–1992.
Teletext

On 19 December 1983 the Federal Council issues the broadcast licence for Teletext. Schweizer Fernsehen DRS launches its Teletext service in 1984. It arrives in French-speaking Switzerland in 1985, and in Italian-speaking regions in 1986.
3sat founded
SRG joins forces with Germany’s ZDF and Austrian national broadcaster ORF to set up specialist arts and culture channel 3sat, which is broadcast via satellite.

Antonio Riva

The Ticinese Antonio Riva becomes SRG’s sixth Director General, having previously worked at the Italian-language broadcaster RTSI. He led the corporation from 1988 to 1996.
