SRG SSR idée suisse is born

SRG gives itself a new official name: SRG SSR idée suisse. ‘Idée suisse’ (which might be loosely translated as ‘the best of Switzerland’) becomes a hallmark for SRG SSR’s high-quality public-service broadcasting.

Radio goes digital

SRG SSR idée suisse begins the switch to digital radio (Digital Audio Broadcasting, or DAB). Digital broadcasts are first introduced in German and French-speaking areas of Switzerland. Virus, a radio station for young people by Schweizer Radio DRS, takes to the airwaves. It is Switzerland’s first digital-only radio station.

Presse TV

Working together in the Zurich area with Presse TV, SF DRS produces the first test broadcasts for a new channel showing repeats of SF’s news and factual programmes.

Swiss Radio International goes online

Swiss Radio International sets up www.swissinfo.org, an internet platform allowing listeners all over the world to access SRG programming and information about Switzerland.
